The Web Awards Program is here to recognize excellence on the World Wide Web for Concept of Design, Content of Site and Customization of Features.
Web Media Award Criteria
The Web Media Award is totally free and unbiased. Upon applying for the Award you will receive notice generally within 4 weeks. Notice will include feedback as to your approval or disapproval for the award.

The Web Media Award is provided to a website whether personal or commercial based upon the following criteria:

You must be over the age of 14 to apply for the Award. Your application for the award constitutes agreement that you are over the age of 14.

Concept of Design:

Is the idea or thought which the website is based upon and designed from, creative? This does not mean it has to be unique or original, necessarily. The website simply needs to be creative, well thought out and worthy of being recognized by others, worthy of receiving an award. This is the easiest aspect of our Award to achieve as most websites will generally qualify.

Sites that will not qualify, amongst others, are sites that are "cookie-cutter" websites (meaning that they are simply copies of other websites), sites that are simply search engine programmable sites or link farms, sites that promote racial hatred or hatred of any type, violence, sex or pornography, breaking the law, or would otherwise be considered unacceptable by the norm of decent community standards.

The site must also be a top level domain.
Subdomains will not qualify. Free Web Hosted sites will generally not qualify as they are usually represented in sub domain fashion, have too many advertisements, pop-overs or pop-unders, have content that is not updated frequently or little content, do not show significant investment or serious desire to be internet worthy (if the site has not taken the time to get a registered url (domain name) how can it be taken seriously?), and many other reasons we can think of but have not listed here.

Web Media Awards always reserves the right to determine what does or does not apply to the standards of inclusion. In the event your site is turned down for our web award we generally will have the courtesy to tell you why. If you correct this reason and want to apply for the award again we encourage that you do.

Content of Site:

If you achieve recognition for the first requirement, which is the easy one, then we look at the site content. We want to know first of all is it all (or mostly all) inclusive. In other words, we look at the concept of the site and then ask ourselves, "does the site content properly inform us with regard to such concept- does it back up this concept well."

A site about dog breeding which does not provide quantitative information about dog breeding would probably not succeed in garnering an award from us. Whereas, a site about dog breeding which provides considerable content about dog breeding and resources for me to find about dog breeding would most likely pass this test. A site about dog breeding which is simply a page of links to other sites about dog breeding might not pass.

Sites that are basically only a "link farm" do not qualify for inclusion in our Awards Program.

Customization of Features:

In this section we also look at design of the content, amongst other things. This is not the same as our first criteria "concept of design." Here we are looking at the actual technical aspects of your design and how friendly it is.

We are not as concerned about compliance to the latest standards of html although that would be great. We are more concerned about spelling and grammer, proper usage of wording and a design structure that is compliant with certain reasonably acceptable standards. Does the site look reasonably well in Internet Explorer and also Firefox, for example. Are there graphics missing, text improperly skewed on the page, broken links, that kind of thing.

This is the most difficult criteria to achieve and the one that most makes earning our Web Media Award the most worthy.

Here we will look at the actual construction of the site. Is it friendly to novice and professional web users alike? Is it friendly to varied browsers, operating systems and Internet connections?

Does the information flow in such a way as to make navigation easy?
If information is collected is there a privacy policy in place and easy to find?
If this is a commercial website how easy is it to contact the business?
If it is a commercial website is there a contact number or address? We will discount a commercial website with no contact number or address but only a contact web form, however that alone will not prevent the site from winning our Web Media Award.

If the other elements are well done and pass our inspection with high marks we will likely overlook the fact that the business provides a limited method for contact although that is not recommended for a bona fide business.

If your website passes our review you earn the Web Media Award for Concept, Content and Customization.

This allows you to place a link to our graphic Award on your site.

In addition, we provide a cross link to your site on our Awards page. This link inclusion will benefit your site by providing additional cross linkage relevancy and exposure. And it also lets your visitors know that your site has been found worthy of recognition.

If you believe that your site is worthy of recognition, deserves a web award and meets the requirements for our Award Program please complete our simple application.
Web Media Awards reserves the right to modify or change our awards criteria at any time and for any reason without notice. An application for recognition does not guarantee inclusion.
